Landscape Design in Stow, OH

Every project we build starts as a design. I walk the property with you, listen to what you are trying to do, and then draw the plan, usually as a 3D rendering you can look at from every angle before anything is priced or dug.

“Marcus made an overwhelming project stress-free with his great design ideas, communication, timeliness and hard work. Marcus and his team members are enjoyable people and take pride in the work they do -- and it shows!…”

Designs we have drawn and built

Finished multi-level paver terrace seen wide, with the brick house behind it
Circular bluestone patio ringed with a charcoal soldier course at a set of french doors
Natural sandstone slab steps climbing a wooded slope through mulched beds and ferns

Every photo is our own work. More finished projects.

What does a landscape design from us look like?

Most of the time it is a 3D rendering of your actual house and yard, with the patio, walls, plantings and lighting drawn in. Tim Wade in Stow put it well in his review: the computer rendering helped his family picture what the finished product could be. We also use the rendering for HOA approvals. When a board or a landscape committee needs locations and setbacks, we present the drawing and handle the approval for you.

Design that comes from building, not just drawing

I have been in landscaping since I was 18, and I spent years installing other designers' plans before I started drawing my own. That matters, because a designer who has never built anything will happily put a hundred plants in a bed. It looks beautiful the day it goes in, and three years later half of it has to be ripped out because it overgrew the space. I design what we can actually build and what will still look right years from now.

How the design conversation goes

I don't go in and say you need a fifteen hundred square foot patio. It sounds like you want enough seating for this many people, so let's design to that. That is how I approach it. You tell me the problem, how you use the yard, and what you want it to feel like. I bring the plan.

What a budget conversation with us sounds like

Budget comes up on the first call, because it should. Projects vary a lot in size, scope and budget, so I tell you on the phone what territory yours is likely to land in and ask whether that is what you were expecting. That saves you a design for a number that was never going to work. When the range fits, the design sharpens it, and you see preliminary pricing with the 3D rendering before anything is final.

This service is right when

  • You have a blank or badly overgrown yard and want a plan for the space
  • You want to see the project before you commit to building it
  • Your HOA needs drawings before it will approve anything

When it is the wrong call

  • You just need a few shrubs swapped out. Call us anyway, but it does not need a design
  • You want a paper plan to hand to another installer. We take on design-only work case by case, so call and ask

What the design actually includes

A Lasting Impressions design includes more than the picture:

  • A 3D model built on your actual house and lot, not a stock scene
  • The layout with locations and setbacks, the same drawing an HOA board reviews
  • Plantings drawn at mature size, so year three looks right
  • Materials called out, so the pricing that follows means something
  • Preliminary pricing alongside the drawing, before you commit to anything

Where we build it

Most of this work lands in Stow landscape design, Hudson, Aurora, Kent and the rest of the towns on the service area page, all inside the circle we keep around our Mantua yard.

What you get on every project

  • Every project is warrantiedThe structure carries a structural warranty, because we stand behind all of our work.
  • Lawn repair warrantied six monthsOur machines can tear up grass during construction. We repair the lawn to its original condition, and the lawn repair is warrantied for six months.
  • Permits and HOA approvals handledWe work with the city, the township and the engineers, sit in the meetings, and present the 3D drawing with locations and setbacks to the HOA board. You do not chase any of it.
  • The price you approve is the priceYou see preliminary pricing with the design and final pricing before anything is ordered. Nothing starts until we have a plan and budget that you are comfortable with.

3D Design questions, answered

Do I get to see a 3D design before you build?

On most projects, yes. We draw your house and yard in the software and design the project in it, so you are looking at your own property, not a sketch. It is the same drawing we hand to an HOA board when approval is needed.

Does a landscape design cost anything?

It depends on the project, and I will tell you on the phone before anything starts. Larger builds carry the design as part of the project. A standalone design has a fee, and we will go over it up front.

Can you design around a plan I already have in my head?

That is my favorite kind of job. You bring the vision, I make it buildable. We have taken projects from a blank backyard through patio, pergola, walls, walkways and plantings, start to finish.

How long does a 3D landscape design take?

A few days, usually, once the site visit has happened. One client wrote in his review that the rendering arrived within a few days of the visit. Bigger properties take longer to draw, and we tell you the timeline when we walk the yard.

Can I see examples of your landscape designs?

Yes. The projects page shows a front entry from its before photos through the 3D design to the finished build, which is the clearest picture of how the process works.

What towns do you cover for 3D design work?

The same circle as everything we build: Hudson, Streetsboro, Aurora, Mantua, Stow and the rest of the list on our service area page. We stay close to the Mantua yard so Marcus can be on every site.

Does 3D design work pair with anything else you build?

Usually. Most projects that include 3D design work also touch paver patios & outdoor living, and designing the two together is cheaper and cleaner than bolting one on later.

“Marcus and his team at Lasting Impressions did a phenomenal job transforming our backyard. He listened intently to our ideas and created an amazing design that was shown to us before the project. His creativity and execution surpassed expectations! Marcus was reliable, highly communicative and on site daily to work with his crew on a water feature, stone pathway, multiple garden beds, plants, trees, and lighting. Everyone on his team were polite and hard working! Marcus went above and beyond with a sincere passion for perfection. We will definitely use Lasting Impressions in the future!!”

“Marcus and his team did a great job replacing a walkway in our backyard along with installing a patio for a fire pit. Additionally, he installed plants through our front and back beds as well as installed river rock to help with water management. I have worked with Marcus before and always found him a good communicator. He and his team are here when they say they are going to be and don’t leave a mess when they are done. Marcus is a high integrity business owner. I would recommend him to anyone looking for landscape design and installation.”
DDoug Johnson
