“Marcus and his team did a great job replacing a walkway in our backyard along with installing a patio for a fire pit. Additionally, he installed plants through our front and back beds as well as installed river rock to help with water management. I have worked with Marcus before and always found him a good communicator. He and his team are here when they say they are going to be and don’t leave a mess when they are done. Marcus is a high integrity business owner. I would recommend him to anyone looking for landscape design and installation.”
Natural Stone Work in Mantua, OH
Natural stone is my favorite material. Outcropping walls, boulder steps climbing a slope, stone slab benches, veneer on a fireplace. We go to the local quarry where they're mining rocks right out of the hillside in Mantua, and then take that to a client's house five miles down the road and build something beautiful out of it.
“Marcus and his team at Lasting Impressions did a phenomenal job transforming our backyard. He listened intently to our ideas and created an amazing design that was shown to us before the project. His creativity and execution surpassed expectations! …Marcus was reliable, highly communicative and on site daily to work with his crew on a water feature, stone pathway, multiple garden beds, plants, trees, and lighting. Everyone on his team were polite and hard working!… Marcus went above and beyond with a sincere passion for perfection. We will definitely use Lasting Impressions in the future!!”
What natural stone work do we do?
Outcropping stone walls, where big flat sandstone ledges wrap a bed or hold a grade. Boulder steps, cut into slopes so you can actually walk your own yard. Pillar caps and seat wall caps in stone instead of concrete. Natural stone overlays on front porches, and stone veneer on outdoor fireplaces. If it involves rock, I want the job.
Why hand-picked stone looks different
I go to the quarry and pick the boulders for your job myself, one at a time, because a step needs a flat face and an outcropping needs the right thickness, and you cannot order that sight unseen. It is more work, and it is why the finished yard looks like the stone belongs there.
How a boulder step gets set
Each step is one stone, picked for a flat walking face and enough thickness to bury. We set them with the machine, bed each one so it cannot rock, and keep the rise consistent from the bottom of the slope to the top. A staircase where every step is a different height gets used once. The joints get river rock or plantings so the run looks grown into the hill.
What natural stone work costs
Stone is priced by the project. Tonnage, machine access and setting time drive it, and hand-picked stone costs more than a pallet of block because the picking and the placing are the craft. It is the premium material we build with, and the projects that use it are the ones people slow down to look at. The projects page shows what that buys.
This service is right when
- You want steps or a walkway up a slope that currently gets ignored
- You want beds and walls that look natural instead of stacked block
- You are building a fire feature or porch and want stone veneer on it
When it is the wrong call
- You need a load-bearing engineered wall. That is a block wall system job, and we build those too
- Budget stone. Natural stone is a premium material and we will not pretend otherwise on the phone
How the stone work goes together
Natural stone only looks right when it is set right:
- Sandstone quarried in Mantua, picked by hand for the specific job
- Slab steps set into cut grade on compacted base, not perched on soil
- Outcropping courses stacked to read like the hillside put them there
- River rock and plantings run to the edges so the stone sits in a setting
- Veneer mechanically supported and finished with stone caps where it tops out
Where we build it
Most of this work lands in Garrettsville stone work, Hiram stone steps, Mantua, Hudson and the rest of the towns on the service area page, all inside the circle we keep around our Mantua yard.
What you get on every project
- Every project is warrantiedThe structure carries a structural warranty, because we stand behind all of our work.
- Lawn repair warrantied six monthsOur machines can tear up grass during construction. We repair the lawn to its original condition, and the lawn repair is warrantied for six months.
- Permits and HOA approvals handledWe work with the city, the township and the engineers, sit in the meetings, and present the 3D drawing with locations and setbacks to the HOA board. You do not chase any of it.
- The price you approve is the priceYou see preliminary pricing with the design and final pricing before anything is ordered. Nothing starts until we have a plan and budget that you are comfortable with.
Stone Work questions, answered
Where does your natural stone come from?
Mostly from a quarry right in Mantua, where sandstone comes straight out of the hillside. I pick boulders there by hand for specific jobs. Buying stone five miles from where we install it keeps hauling short and lets me choose every piece.
Can you build natural stone steps into a hill?
Yes. Boulder steps up a slope are some of my favorite builds. We set each slab into the grade so it stays put, and run river rock or plantings along the sides so the slope holds.
Do you do stone veneer on fireplaces?
We do. We have veneered outdoor fireplaces top to bottom, including the full chimney back, with a heavy stone mantel set into the face.
What is outcropping stone?
Big, flat-faced ledges of natural sandstone, set so they read like the rock was always in the hill. We use them as retaining walls, bed edges and accents, and they are the reason a finished yard can look grown rather than built.
Do you sell or deliver stone on its own?
No. We are not a stone yard. The boulders Marcus hand-picks at the quarry go into projects we design and build, because half the value is choosing the right stone and setting it right.
What towns do you cover for natural stone work?
The same circle as everything we build: Hudson, Streetsboro, Aurora, Mantua, Stow and the rest of the list on our service area page. We stay close to the Mantua yard so Marcus can be on every site.
Does natural stone work pair with anything else you build?
Usually. Most projects that include natural stone work also touch water features & ponds, and designing the two together is cheaper and cleaner than bolting one on later.
